5 TIPS FROM A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER FOR RAIN ON YOUR WEDDING DAY

All around the world, there are different superstitions surrounding rain on your wedding day, most of them agree that it is a sign of good luck and prosperity. Some cultures believe rain signifies wealth whereas others believe it is a sign of fertility and cleansing. It doesn't matter which superstitions you believe in, as a bride, rain on your wedding day seems more like a curse than a blessing. Here are some tips from a wedding photographer that will definitely help you be prepared for rain at your wedding!

#1. Rent a clear-top tent.

You can still have your beautiful outdoor wedding! The sound of the rain falling on the tent will create a romantic and intimate atmosphere. Your wedding reception photos will look amazing with the beautiful lighting in the tent. Rainy weather also forces your guests to stay in the venue/tent and not wander around outside too much, which is great to get the party started!

#2. Make sure you have enough umbrellas!

You can choose from a variety of styles and colors. You can even have your initials printed on them if you want to go the extra mile. My favorite is a see-through umbrella, I just love the way the light reflects through it. Umbrellas make excellent props for your wedding photos! Another ProTip is to have some extra blankets and towels for guests, and if it's really cold you can hire some heaters.

#3. Work with your vendors!

They are the Pro's and they know what to do. Trust them and you will have the most magical wedding day! As a wedding photographer, I always scout for locations that will give shade to the bride and groom while still accentuating the rain! All of my camera gear is waterproof and ready for any storm!

#4. Protect your wedding dress.

You can rent a bridal petticoat or wear a rain jacket while walking to your next location to protect your dress. Don't forget your rain boots and some extra towels if you get a little wet. But don't let the rain stop you from your beautiful wedding photos, I promise you, all the effort will be worth it in the end!

#5. Remember to go with waterproof makeup and choose a frizz-free hairstyle.

There are so many elegant frizz-free hairstyles you can choose from so that you don't have to worry about your hair on a rainy wedding day. Above is an example of an elegant side-braid. Or you can go for an elegant up-do. Also remember to keep a touch-up bag with you, with some hairspray, powder, lipstick, etc.

Throughout my 15-year wedding photography career, I have photographed dozens of rainy weddings and these are the ones that I love the most! They are so unique because the photos have a fairytale quality that you can't mimic on a normal sunny day. And when else will you be able to get a rainbow on your wedding day?
